September 6, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

This past Wednesday, the Evening on Astor, also known as the “world’s most elegant block party" returned to the Gold Coast. I had a wonderful time catching up with neighbors and admiring the work put into designing the unique tables. Congratulations to the Gold Coast Neighbors Association on another community-enriching event!

We are two weekends out from the Premier League Mornings Live Fan Fest in Lincoln Park on September 21st and 22nd. Home to Manchester United, Liverpool and other top soccer/football clubs in the world, the English Premier League has a broad international reach. I am proud that Fan Fest chose our community for their Chicago debut, and the days will include broadcasts of live matches as they occur in England, celebrity/athlete meet & greets, merchandise giveaways, Nike training areas, the Premier League Trophy, and more! Free registrations for Saturday are now closed, so please register for Sunday as soon as possible.

The 18th and 19th District Police have put out a Community Alert to warn businesses and residents that there have been burglary-related incidents throughout September. In these incidents, offenders gain entry into businesses by smashing the front window and entering and removing cash from registers and tip jars. These incidents have occurred in the early morning hours and have specifically impacted the following locations in the 43rd Ward.

  • 2200 Block of North Clark on September 1st between 1 AM and 8 AM

  • 2400 Block of North Lincoln Ave on September 1st between 2 AM and 7:30 AM

  • 2000 Block of North Lincoln Park West on September 1st at 3:25 AM

Linked here is a video being circulated by the police of the offenders and some of the incidents. If you have any information please contact the Area 3 Detectives at 312-744-8263.

Finally, the 43rd Ward business corridors continue to thrive more each day. This week, Sushi Taku Rotary opened at 935 W Webster Ave, right across the street from McGee’s. They are a new and exciting branch of the renowned Sushi Taku family, bringing authentic flavors of Japan to your plate. Their mission is to offer a premium all-you-can-eat sushi experience right in the heart of Lincoln Park. In addition, Big Shoulders Coffee opened a few weeks ago, and is already becoming a local favorite. Located at 1165 W Diversey Pkwy, this woman-owned Chicago coffee company is focused on sustainability, giving back to the community, and of course - good coffee. Lastly, Foxtrot Market returned to their Gold Coast neighborhood location on Thursday. Located at 23 W. Maple, it is the first Chicago location to reopen.

Last weekend Ald. Knudsen participated in Active Trans’ annual “Bike the Drive, one of his favorite events in Chicago

Sincerely,

Alderman Timmy Knudsen

Public Safety

Current Police Compstats

As our city government and safety leadership transition into the next Administration, crime, and safety remain top of mind for our community. Each week, the 18th and 19th District post Compstat numbers that reflect changes in indexes for key crimes. In an effort to keep residents informed on these trends, we will publish those weekly updates in the newsletter’s public safety section. As a reminder, these statistics represent 100% of the 18th and 19th Police Districts; accordingly, they represent an area much larger than our ward.

Upcoming CAPS Meetings

We work closely with the 43rd Ward’s local CAPS districts, which include the 18th (Near North) and 19th (Town Hall) Police Districts.

Our office is in frequent contact with officers from both of these districts and their local CAPS officers, who host a variety of community forums and events including beat meetings, informational settings, and expert panel discussions, as well as sending out community alerts when a pattern of crime is detected.

Beat Meetings are part of the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy and an excellent way to hear directly from CPD about your neighborhood. Meetings are held in the evenings every two months. Click here and find out your Police District and Beat number.
