Allied Gardens got a refresh the community has been waiting for.  

Last month, our Transportation Department’s Mill and Pave Team resurfaced Galewood Street, including Easton Avenue, Easton Court, and Delano Avenue.

 

This street segment included sections rated as low as 10.43 on our Pavement Condition Index – improvements on streets like these are deeply appreciated by the community.

Big news coming out of Del Cerro – on August 27, the community will gather to celebrate the Grand Opening of Patrick Henry High School's History Museum. See information, shared by the curators, below. 

 

“San Diego’s largest public high school will soon be home to a showcase of its storied past when Patrick Henry High’s History Museum officially welcomes visitors on Thursday, August 27 from 5 until 8 p.m. It coincides with the Fall Open House for parents and students to begin the 58th year of the school’s operation. 

 

Housed in the campus library, the brand-new History Museum will feature displays covering all aspects of student life during the first decade of Patrick Henry’s existence. 

 

“Many of these memorabilia items were gathered back in 2023 when a number of alumni began production on a history film about Patrick Henry’s first years, said History Museum Founding Curator Scott Aveldson. We needed visual artifacts from the late 60s and early 70s to help tell the story. A lot of our classmates were still holding on to these cherished items and were happy to donate them to us. 

 

“As I started cataloguing these artifacts, it dawned on me that there could be a second life for all of these treasures in a museum. A number of San Diego County schools older than Patrick Henry have museums in place, but we didn’t. When we suggested the idea to the school administration, they were very enthusiastic about it.”

Last month, some major improvements hit the Linda Vista Library. 

 

The City’s Sustainability Division of the Public Utilities Department is working on some wonderful adjustments to the Linda Vista Library, including improved lighting and new water apparatuses, both of which improve energy and water conservation efforts respectively. 

 

Behind the scenes, the team is also upgrading to an electric HVAC system, among other things, which will worked on over the following months. 

I went to look at the improvements and to chat with librarians about their excitement for the project. I’ll be sharing a video of that visit to my Instagram soon. In the meantime, enjoy the photo below! 

Last month, the Transportation Department worked on a number of projects throughout San Carlos. 

 

Thanks to the efficiency of our in-house Mill and Pave Team, smaller roads like Lake Shore Drive, Cowles Mountain Boulevard, Lake Badin Avenue, and Lake Murray Boulevard can be addressed swiftly. Our in-house team also does the best job paving a smooth road – I have seen it myself. 

 

Work on these streets in San Carlos, which began in April, wrapped up last month and I know the community is grateful for these changes. Big thanks to the Transportation Department for their good work. 

Last month, we successfully replaced a desperately needed sidewalk on the West side of Mission Center Road and added street signs for a previously unmarked alleyway in Serra Mesa. These important projects were completed by City staff in response to constituent requests, which we are always happy to elevate for you.

Big news in Tierrasanta! 

 

At one of my town halls this year, Tierrasanta residents raised concerns that the solar panel lights at the Tierrasanta Pool Parking Lot had been out. After working with Parks & Recreation Staff, we were able to identify the electrical issues and make the necessary repairs. As the sun goes down earlier in the fall and winter months, residents will be able to enjoy a safe and well-lit walk back to their cars after enjoying themselves at the Rec Center or the Pool.

Make Mission Trails home: Camp Host needed at Kumeyaay Lake 

 

The City of San Diego is seeking a camp host to live and volunteer at Kumeyaay Lake Campground in Mission Trails Regional Park for a one-year term. The host helps welcome campers, share park information and keep the campground safe, clean and inviting. 

 

Applicants must have their own recreational vehicle or travel trailer and be available primarily on weekends and some holidays. A full-hookup RV site is provided during the assignment.
