Honoring our Heroes on Purple Heart Day
|
This past Friday was Purple Heart Day, where we honor the brave men and women who were wounded or gave their lives in service to our nation.
Collectively, we remember the courage of those who served, the wounds they endured, the lives forever changed, and those who never made it home.
Behind every Purple Heart is a person who made an extraordinary sacrifice—and a family who often carried the pain and uncertainty alongside them. To every Purple Heart recipient and their loved ones: thank you and we will never forget what you gave for our country.

Notice of Upcoming Medicaid Changes
|
Changes to Medicaid, also known as Medical Assistance in Pennsylvania, are coming on January 1, 2027, because of changes to federal law. More information is expected to be released, but here is what you need to know for now:
- Some adults will need to renew their Medicaid Plan every six months instead of annually.
- A new requirement means some adults enrolled in Medicaid will need to participate in work, school, job training, volunteering, or other community activities.
If you receive Medicaid, now is a good time to make sure your mailing address and contact information are up to date with DHS so you don’t miss important notices about these changes.

One-Time Supplemental LIHEAP Payments Announced
|
Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh announced that eligible households will receive a $100 supplemental payment from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
PA DHS will issue the $100 supplemental payments for households that both received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and include at least one family member who has a disability, is age 60 or older, or is a child under the age of six. Approximately 193,000 households will be automatically issued a supplemental payment to the same utility vendor who received their cash grant during the normal LIHEAP season. Households will receive a notice informing them that they are eligible and will receive the supplement.

Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit delivers Millions in Relief
|
Pennsylvania’s new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit has already delivered nearly $217 million in tax relief to more than 876,000 Pennsylvanians during the 2025 tax filing season. As additional tax returns are processed, the Shapiro Administration expects the program to provide approximately $220 million to as many as 940,000 residents by the end of the year.
Created as part of the 2025–26 state budget, the WPTC is modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit and provides eligible working families with a state tax credit equal to 10% of their federal EITC, worth up to $805 in its first year.
The credit is helping families cope with rising everyday costs by putting more money back into their pockets. The Department of Revenue streamlined the application process by automatically calculating the credit for many online filers and has launched an online eligibility calculator to help more Pennsylvanians determine whether they qualify.
Contact our office for more information about the WPTC or any other state program or issue.
