Updates from the Capitol

Budget negotiations for the 2026-2027 state budget are ramping up, and the PA House spent the first three of 18 scheduled session days advancing many great bills. To begin, we moved legislation that would require chip-enabled EBT cards out of the House Human Services Committee unanimously, positioning it for a full vote in the PA House in the coming weeks.

And we sent a number of great bills from the PA House to the state Senate this week including:

H.B. 1045 – Helping school personnel recognize seizures.

H.B. 2117 – Ensuring access to asthma medication in schools.

H.B. 2186 – Expanding housing supply by allowing for accessory dwelling units.

H.B. 2120 – Protecting homeowners in shared equity deals.

H.B. 2314 – Directing the Attorney General to conduct a public education campaign on artificial intelligence.

Nearly 400 bills have now been passed by the PA House during the 2025-26 Legislative Session. Remember that, to become law, these bills must also be passed by the state Senate and approved by the governor.

Share Your Input on Proposed Gas Rate Increases

While I was in Harrisburg this week, my Chief of Staff, Bridget Barrett, attended the PUC hearing in Ross Township on the proposed Peoples Natural Gas rate increase and delivered a statement on my behalf opposing the increase as unnecessary and callous. Peoples Gas is not hurting for income, but the people of District 20 and Pennsylvania at large are struggling to manage rising costs. Now is not the time to raise rates.

If you're a Peoples customer, I encourage you to participate in the upcoming telephonic hearings on June 11 and make your voice heard.

Ross Pride 2026

Ross Pride was once again a wonderfully affirming celebration of inclusion and belonging. My office was proud to join with the office of State Senator Lindsey Williams to show our support for our LGBTQIA+ friends and neighbors in Ross Township and beyond.

Check out more Pride events happening in our area here.

Li’l Bridgey 5K

Last weekend, Una and I spent an exciting Saturday joining in the inaugural Li'l Bridgey 5K. Beginning and ending on the new Davis Avenue pedestrian bridge, it was a fun way to celebrate the return of this community asset that I proudly helped to secure state funding to support.

Thanks for Coming to My Shred Event

My shred event with Senator Lindsey Williams, also on Saturday, was a great success! Thank you to Ross Township Department of Public Works for always being such a great host and providing additional staff to help things run smoothly. And, of course, thank you to Steel City Shredding for providing this invaluable service to our community!
