Another Successful Shred Event / Donation Drive

My colleagues Sen. Steve Santarsiero, Rep. Jim Prokopiak, and I hosted a free Paper Shred Event and Food Donation Drive at Bucks County Technical High School.

The event was a resounding success! Turnout was excellent, and we had so many people who showed up to donate food.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers, to BCTHS for hosting us, and to everyone who came out and supported our event!

Grant Dollars in Action

Senator Steve Santarsiero and I had the opportunity to see the results of our $485,000 state grant to resurface the track at Bristol Borough Junior/Senior High School.

I’m excited to see what the Bristol Warriors will accomplish with this new facility!

Generating Contributions for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community

Today, it is estimated that over one million Pennsylvanians live with deafness and hearing loss. Unfortunately, resources for assistive technology and communication support like certified interpreters are not available for many in the deaf and hard of hearing communities. In Pennsylvania, the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) provides that support with hearing aids and other technology, and it registers interpreters statewide. It needs more support to do this work.

To address this problem, I am supporting legislation that would give people the option to voluntarily donate $5 to ODHH when applying for or renewing a driver’s license, ID card, or vehicle registration online through PennDOT’s website. Any donations received in this manner would be used exclusively to provide communication access for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and cannot be used for any administrative or unrelated costs.

I will be a co-sponsor of this bill when it is introduced in the near future.
