Dear Inquirer,
Residents across the City use the Get It Done app for many things, from reporting a missed trash collection to a clogged storm drain and everything in between. One of the most common reports we receive through Get It Done is in regard to potholes. The Transportation Department fills thousands of potholes every year in response to these reports.
Because this is such a major concern for many residents, the Department has created an overview of the potholes filled in each Council District. The first version of this report covers the first six months of Fiscal Year 2026, from July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. During this period, there were over 5000 citywide requests for pothole patching, and crews patched nearly 19,000 potholes. In District 2, 2561 potholes have been repaired in this timeframe. As crews have continued to patch potholes into 2026, District 2 has had the second-highest number filled in the city. Below, you will see a map of where the potholes were filled in District 2.

The Get It Done reports allow our Transportation Department and Performance & Analytics Department to ensure that reports are being addressed in a timely manner whenever possible. Each Get It Done report will show a timeline of how long it is estimated that it will take to address the request, and a report number for tracking purposes. If you have a Get It Done report that has exceeded the estimated timeline to be addressed, you can forward the report number to your Community Representative in my office and they will be able to help provide you an update on the status of your request. Updated City Council Budget
On February 9, the City's Independent Budget Analyst presented an update on the City Council's Budget. Unfortunately, for the rest of FY26, the City is $9.9 million below expected revenue. In large part, this is due to a large part of Councilmembers voting for a deficit budget last June. Your Councilmember was the only one who voted against deficit spending. In the upcoming Fiscal Year, we must prioritize preserving core service levels while ensuring that we also balance the budget.

Black History Month
The first national observance of Black History took place a century ago in 1926, and this year's Black History Month theme "A Century of Black History Commemorations" reflects on the progress we have made toward preserving the historical truth about the history of Black Americans. Black History Month is a time where we celebrate the contributions and achievements of the Black community while also reflecting on lessons taught by the many historic Black leaders who fought hard for civil rights, inclusion, and justice.

Tecolote Canyon Golf Course Temporary Closure
The City's long-term lease with the previous operator of the Tecolote Canyon Golf Course has expired. Because a major sewer line is being built underneath the course, it had to be temporarily closed. While the course is temporarily closed, the City is releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to golf course operators for a new lease while the course remains closed. The golf course is planned to reopen upon the conclusion of the infrastructure project, which is scheduled for this summer. For more information on the ongoing infrastructure project, click the button below.

Democrats for Equality Freedom Awards
Last week, I was honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Democrats for Equality's annual Freedom Awards. I learned early in my life that progress is never handed to you - you must take action to make progress. I've spent my entire life fighting for equality, justice, and inclusion, first in the Civil Rights Movement, then the Women's Movement, and the LGBTQ+ Movement, and I am proud of the rights we have earned so far. In a time such as this, we must constantly take action to ensure that our rights and equality are protected.
