Local Business Highlight

Recently, I had the opportunity to tour Mazzanti's Market, a true Bristol institution that has been serving the community since 1917. For more than a century, this family-owned market has built its reputation on quality ingredients, outstanding service, and treating every customer like family.

Known far beyond Bucks County for its legendary Italian hoagies, Mazzanti's remains a shining example of a small business that has stood the test of time through generations of hard work and dedication. It was inspiring to see firsthand how a local family business continues to thrive while preserving the traditions and values that have made it a community staple for over 100 years.

Thank you to the owners Mario, his cousin Elvira, and his aunt, Irma!

Free Summer Meals Program Returns to Bristol Twp. School District

For the third consecutive summer, the Bristol Township School District’s Food Service Department will offer free, nutritious meals to students through its Summer Food Service Program.

Starting on Monday, June 22, the Food Service Department will serve breakfast and lunch daily in the cafeterias at Truman High School and Mill Creek Elementary.

Meals are free of charge for any child 18 years of age or younger. No application or registration is required. Additionally, children do not need to be enrolled in a Bristol Township school; however, children need to be present to receive free meals.

Menus will be posted in advance on the SFSP webpage

The SFSP will operate Monday through Friday through August 26, with the exception of July 3, at the following schools:

  • Truman High School, 3001 Green Lane, Levittown, will serve breakfast from 8 to 8:45 a.m., and lunch from 10 to 11:45 a.m.
  • Mill Creek Elementary, 6501 Mill Creek Road, Levittown, will serve breakfast from 9 to 9:45 a.m., and lunch from 10:45 to 12:30 p.m.

There is a limit of one breakfast and one lunch per child, per day. Meals should be consumed on site.

Sites can be found throughout the community. Families can text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304 and type in a zip code to find nearby summer meals sites, along with operating days and times, or use the USDA’s site finder webpage. No application, registration, proof of residency or citizenship is required.

Police Now Issuing Fines For Hands-Free Law Violations

Paul Miller’s Law is now in effect, making it illegal to be on your cell phone while driving. Phone usage while driving will result in a citation and fine.

This law was put forth by Eileen Miller. Eileen is the mother of Paul Miller, who was tragically killed when a semi-truck driver crossed three lanes, went through a grassy median, and struck Paul’s car head-on.

Gov. Josh Shapiro signed the legislation named after Paul Miller into law in 2024. The law took effect last June, but it included a one-year transition period where police could only issue warnings.

The law carries a $50 fine plus court costs and fees for anyone holding, supporting, or manually operating a cellphone or interactive mobile device while driving. The ban applies even when motorists are temporarily stopped in traffic or at red lights.

For the most severe cases, the law includes a sentencing enhancement that can add up to five years to a prison term for drivers convicted of homicide by vehicle while driving distracted.

Long-Delayed Bristol Healthcare Facility Cleared to Open

Borough officials confirmed this week that the Mill Run healthcare facility on Wilson Avenue has passed its final inspections and is cleared to open.

An opening date for the senior facility remains unclear, but it is slated to house elder-care services and medical offices once operational. The 77,000-square-foot building has undergone a massive overhaul since 2016. It is being developed by Philadelphia-based 1201 Wilson Acquisition, a firm associated with Healthcare Stat Homecare.

Empowering our Firefighters

I was proud to vote for House Bill 2446, which would modernize Pennsylvania fire companies through a transformational $30 million grant program.

Fire companies across Pennsylvania are struggling to keep up with the demands of providing reliable firefighting services. Many face challenges maintaining equipment and facilities, sustaining adequate staffing, and attracting new volunteers.

This effort would provide substantial grant opportunities to equip fire companies for the modern and evolving world with the goal of strengthening the long-term capacity of fire companies across the Commonwealth.

These modernization and operational improvements would help ensure communities continue to receive reliable firefighting services for years to come.
