My AI Op-Ed with the Philadelphia Inquirer

"Artificial intelligence is here to stay, and its influence across nearly every industry and aspect of society is expanding at a breathtaking pace.

While AI offers clear benefits for business, government, and personal life, there is currently a troubling lack of safety protocols and consumer protections. Our country has learned hard lessons from allowing business and industry to regulate themselves. We cannot afford to take a wait-and-see approach when it comes to the absence of meaningful guardrails for AI technology.

The revolutionary potential of AI and its impact on business, government, and society is undeniable. This is a transformation on the scale of the automobile or refrigeration, and comparable to the technological revolutions brought by the internet and social media.

Just because we can do something doesn’t always mean we should."

As our technological landscape rapidly evolves, we as legislators have an obligation to ensure the safety of our consumers. The emergence of artificial intelligence offers significant benefits to society; however, without appropriate regulation, AI risks becoming as lawless as the Wild West. This technology presents real dangers, and it is our duty to safeguard our citizens.

2025 In Review

This past year, I secured $4,293,190 for our communities, schools, and nonprofits. These funds will support critical infrastructure improvements in our townships, strengthen services for our senior citizens, and invest in the future of our children. I will continue advocating for our community at the state level and look forward to securing new investments in 2026.

Additionally, I introduced 51 new pieces of legislation in the House, with nine bills passing the chamber and two ultimately enacted into law. My office provided services to more than 7,500 of our neighbors, and I met with 820 of you at the 11 community events I hosted.

It may be a new year, but I am still here to serve YOU! My office can help you with a variety of state services. Don't hesitate to reach out via email at RepShusterman@pahouse.net or phone at (484) 200-8260!

Sincerely,

Rep. Melissa Shusterman
