Over $1.6 million in grant funding approved for local community projects

I’m delighted to announce that multiple organizations across the 163rd were awarded new grant funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Across our district, the following projects were granted funding:

  • $685,468 to Collingdale Borough for the rehabilitation of the 100 Clifton Avenue and 800 MacDade Boulevard renovation projects. Renovations include the replacement of HVAC units, along with a new, ADA-accessible elevator lift. The renovations will allow the borough to provide a safe community space for residents.
  • $450,000 to Upper Darby Township to help fund the Darby Creek Upper Pedestrian Bridge and create a public space on Garrett Road. The project is expected to improve curb appeal of the Garrettford business district while providing a welcoming space for shoppers and residents.
  • $200,000 to Darby Township for the purchase of multiple vehicles, including five police vehicles and a lowboy dump truck with a snowplow and spreader.

I’m always proud to support grants that address community needs and these funds will provide needed upkeep and care to our beloved community!

Wreaths Across America at Eden Cemetery

I joined members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority to honor our fallen heroes by participating in Wreaths Across America. We stopped at Eden Cemetery last Saturday, a historically Black cemetery in Collingdale.

I was grateful to participate in the wreath laying this year with Dr. Monica Taylor and state Rep. Regina Young, who are both members of Zeta Phi Beta!

Upcoming office closures during the holidays

My office will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas. Additionally, on Friday, Dec. 26 we will operate on an appointment only basis.

We will reopen for our regularly scheduled hours on Monday, Dec. 29.

Happy holidays! Thank you for giving me the privilege of serving this community. I look forward to continuing our work together in the new year.

Nearly $3.5 million invested in public safety programs across Delaware County!

Last week, the PA House Democratic Delaware County Delegation announced nearly $3.5 million in state grant funding to support crime victims, children, and justice-involved people with substance use disorders.

These state grants help build and strengthen the infrastructure that provides a safety net for our county’s most vulnerable. They’re smart, strategic investments in Delaware County’s social needs and I’m proud to support them!

The funding was approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Learn more here: Legislators announce nearly $3.5 million investment in public safety programs in Delaware County.

Two Delco police officers honored in the House

This week, Speaker Joanna McClinton honored two Delaware County police officers whose quick action saved the life of a choking baby with her Meritorious Service Medal. Yeadon Police Patrolman Matthew O’Donnell and his brother Corporal Joseph O’Donnell from Darby Borough joined her in the House chamber to receive their recognitions.

In early 2024 the two brothers responded to the scene and were able to save the 1-year-old with back blows and chest thrusts. You can read more about their story here.

Speaker McClinton announced the creation of the Speaker’s Meritorious Service Medal last November to honor people who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of Pennsylvania, or other significant societal, public, or private endeavors.
