INTRODUCING MY STAFF

Margie Brassil

Margie is returning for her eleventh session as my Chief of Staff, even though she wishes she were babysitting her grandson, Grayson. Her focus will be on steering my bills through their hearings. She also schedules meetings with constituent groups who come to Annapolis to meet with me and other legislators during session. Give her a call if you have any questions about bills this session.

Julie Hubbard

 

Julie continues to serve as my Director of Constituent Services, providing dedicated support to our community. She assists with constituent concerns related to state agencies, manages correspondence, and meets with constituents on my behalf. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance—my office is here to help.

 

Akshay Kapilashrami

 

 

Akshay is a Senior at the University of Maryland College Park studying Government & Politics. He is pursuing a master’s in international relations as part of a +1 program at UMD. Akshay plans on pursuing a career with an international outlook, potentially through the UN or the State Department’s Foreign Service. In his free time Akshay enjoys reading novels and watching suspenseful thriller movies, he is also an avid enthusiast of EDM (electronic dance music). During this Legislative Session, Akshay will be responsible for supporting research and helping to write my newsletters. Akshay said his interest in important climate issues made him interested in working for my office. He hopes to make a difference in whatever way he can.

 

 

Chaltu Watkins

 

 

Chaltu is a junior studying Public Policy and pursuing a certificate in African-American and Africana Studies at the University of Maryland College Park. Chaltu is passionate about restorative justice and education policy. She will help manage legislative scholarship applications and assist meetings with constituents. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, junk journaling and watching movies and shows. Chaltu aspires to attend law school after completing her undergraduate studies. She is dedicated to making a significant impact in legislative affairs and pursuing her passion for social justice.

CONSTITUENT SERVICES

As your state representative, one of my most important roles is helping constituents navigate state government. Whether you need assistance with agencies, accessing resources, or addressing legislative concerns, my office is here to help. Government services can sometimes be complex, and I want to ensure you have the support you need. Below are some ways we can assist you.

 

  • Assistance with financial aid for higher education
  • Information on legislative scholarships
  • Help with public utility concerns or complaints
  • Support for consumer complaints
  • Assistance with state road issues or concerns involving MDOT or MVA
  • Guidance on issues related to any state agency
  • Referrals to Baltimore County agencies
  • Requests for state documents, including bills, regulations, and legislation
  • Citations from the Maryland General Assembly for community achievements and family milestones
  • Arranging tours of the State Capitol

SUBURBAN ORTHODOX INAUGURATION CEREMONY

I attended the inauguration ceremony for the Suburban Orthodox Congregation’s new, magnificent state-of-the-art synagogue complex on January 19th. Thank you to Rabbi Shmuel Silber, and the leadership and membership of Suburban Orthodox Congregation for the invitation.

RESOURCES

Old Court Road Complete Street Corridor Design Project Meeting on February 5th, 6pm - What to Expect:

 

The meeting will be conducted in an open house format, allowing attendees to explore the concepts at their own pace. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Large roll maps displaying various design concepts along different portions of the corridor.
  • 3D renderings to help visualize potential changes to the streetscape.
  • An opportunity to provide feedback in person or through a digital survey form.

Our project team will be available throughout the meeting to answer questions and discuss the designs with you.

 

LEGISLATIVE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS

The applications for my H. Allan Lipsitz Memorial Legislative Scholarship are now available.  Please visit my website for more details. 

 

As a reminder, students who received a scholarship last year need to re-apply for the 2025-2026 academic year.

 

All scholarship applications are due MARCH 31, 2025

 

Students can get additional information about state financial aid—including how to navigate the FAFSA process—by going to the Maryland Higher Education Commission. To be considered for state financial aid, you must file FAFSA June 30, 2025. To be notified of scholarship eligibility for Maryland Scholarships, you are encouraged to file by March 1, 2025.

 

Don’t forget to apply for the other District 11B scholarships.
