Stormwater Crews Clearing Channels
|
Council President LaCava thanks crew members clearing stormwater channels in Sorrento Valley.
|
Delivering on our goal to ensure our stormwater infrastructure and flood channels are fully operational; the City of San Diego is continuing work in anticipation of El Niño weather events. This week, I toured the work underway in clearing the Peñasquitos Creek stormwater channel, an area west of the 5 frequently subject to flooding, and was briefed by our Stormwater Department on their progress.
The tour also gave me a chance to thank city crews working 12 hour days on this critical work.
As a reminder, act now to prepare and protect your homes and storefronts before the storms hit.
Stay prepared. Stay ready.

Policy Recap: San Diego City Council Legislative Wins in Sacramento
|
In June, Councilmember Elo-Rivera and I brought forward a resolution to City Council, endorsing a slate of energy bills to curb soaring energy costs for San Diegans. San Diego delivered a strong message to Sacramento: Hold investor-owned utilities accountable and unlock energy savings for residents.
The Governor signed many of the bills into law. These bills instill critical consumer protections to minimize cost increases and strengthen oversight of investor-owned public utilities.

2nd Annual San Diego Climate Week Comes to a Close
|
Council President LaCava listening to Climate Advisory Board members present on the City’s Climate Action Plan strategies at the San Diego Climate Week Air Summit at Balboa Park.
|
The 2nd Annual San Diego Climate Week concluded on October 8. I spoke during the "Air Summit" at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. It is encouraging to see the growth and passion of Climate Week participants. Addressing the climate crisis requires a consistent, coordinated effort. The more than 200 events over the past week are a catalyst for mitigation actions that will continue to ripple into the future.
I continue my work on environmental policy. We must build upon our track record and invest in renewable energy, electrify City assets, push back against offshore oil drilling, and preserve and expand wetlands.
Protecting our environment is protecting San Diegans and our quality of life.

Small Business Spotlight: Poke ETC. Pacific Beach Grand Opening
|
Council President LaCava presents a district proclamation celebrating the grand opening of Poke ETC. in Pacific Beach.
|
The Pacific Beach community welcomed Poke ETC. at their grand opening. After building a strong following, Poke ETC. chose Pacific Beach for their second location to serve and delight customers with authentic Hawaiian poke. I presented them with a district proclamation to commemorate this significant moment and wish Poke ETC. - Pacific Beach’s owners, Cat and Rob, much success.
