Dear Neighbors,
As a reminder, this weekend the 43rd Ward Office will begin Saturday hours from 10am - Noon! Through this investment in extended hours, we hope to increase access to our office for all members of the community no matter their weekly schedules. Our regular weekday hours will remain unchanged.
Join us for our next Community Meet and Greet. These events serve as a way for the community to meet the Alderman and representatives from other City of Chicago Departments. This event we will have representatives from the Department of Water Management.

Last night, several businesses at Webster & Halsted (Athenian Room, Underthings, Kameya Sushi, Shine Restaurant and Brown Bag Seafood Co.) were broken into. The Chicago Police Department is currently investigating the robberies, which do not seem to be a part of the more sophisticated “robbery crew” trend that other areas on the North Side have experienced. Although items taken were minimal, it is incredibly unsettling for any business to be violated in this way. We have a wonderful mix of businesses at this corner, and we ask the community to consider supporting them through eating and shopping locally this weekend.
On Monday our office held a second community meeting for the proposed DePaul Student Athletic Center attended by more than 100 neighbors. At the project’s first community meeting last Fall, community members, the local Sheffield Neighbors Association, and our office had concerns related to design/aesthetics, preservation efforts, community use and more. As a result, my office provided a laundry list of recommended improvements and asked DePaul to go back to the drawing board. DePaul responded in good faith, and presented a second proposal including (i) better aesthetics such as a more historic design using brick similar to the DePaul School of Music, (ii) widened sidewalk setbacks and substantial landscaping for public community space, (iii) commitments to preserve and/or landmark the historic Cortelyou Commons, Byrne Hall and O’Connell Hall, (iv) rooftop solar paneling to reduce energy consumption, (v) commitments to youth sports programs for facility use, and (vi) more.
Our office has not made a final determination related to the project, and accordingly, will continue to negotiate in order to ensure that if a project is done, it is one that benefits our community for generations. Please continue to send our office feedback at yourvoice@ward43.org.
Rain or shine, there is a lot to enjoy in the 43rd Ward this weekend. Tomorrow begins the season of the Lincoln Park Farmers Market at Lincoln Park High School. I love this local market, and encourage you to go explore before visiting our office’s new Saturday hours!

DePaul Encampment Update: Click here for updates from DePaul University on the encampment on DePaul University’s quad. I support DePaul’s efforts as a private institution with Vincentian traditions “to identify a path forward that allows our community to make their voices heard, while also respecting the rights of fellow students to safely pursue their education and participate in regular university activities.”
Business Spotlights: Last week, Shot Bar MedSpa opened at 2444 N. Clark. Shot Bar is well-known for their cutting edge treatments, and their unique facility design make them a great addition to the Clark corridor. When beauty professionals Lindsey Sikora and Sarah Halverson decided to expand their business, they knew Lincoln Park would be the perfect location. Check out Shot Bar’s Grand Opening specials here.

As our city government and safety leadership transition into the next Administration, crime, and safety remain top of mind for our community. Each week, the 18th and 19th District post Compstat numbers that reflect changes in indexes for key crimes. In an effort to keep residents informed on these trends, we will publish those weekly updates in the newsletter’s public safety section. As a reminder, these statistics represent 100% of the 18th and 19th Police Districts; accordingly, they represent an area much larger than our ward.

We work closely with the 43rd Ward’s local CAPS districts, which include the 18th (Near North) and 19th (Town Hall) Police Districts.
Our office is in frequent contact with officers from both of these districts and their local CAPS officers, who host a variety of community forums and events including beat meetings, informational settings, and expert panel discussions, as well as sending out community alerts when a pattern of crime is detected.
Beat Meetings are part of the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy and an excellent way to hear directly from CPD about your neighborhood. Meetings are held in the evenings every two months. Click here and find out your Police District and Beat number.

Parking Enforcement via 311

The Department of Finance (DOF) announced that City residents now have the option of reporting the following parking enforcement violations on the 311 app or online:
- Bus Lane Parking
- Commercial Loading Zone
- Commercial Vehicle Parked on a Residential Street
- Disabled Parking
- Fire Hydrant Parking
- Residential Parking
- Rush Hour Zones
- School Safety Zones

- Other (Semi-trucks parked on streets, etc.)
Where previously only bike lane violations could be reported on 311, the DOF has now expanded the ability to report parking violations, to drive more community-based enforcement.
Neighbors can report parking violations by calling 311, using the CHI311 app, or through the 311 website. The request type is “Finance Parking Code Enforcement Review.”

Have questions about street work happening in your area? The Department of Transportation has a wonderful tool to look up street work in your area called the Chi Street Work Portal. Here you can input an address and see all surrounding permits for projects on that street.

I want to keep spreading the good word of how powerful a tool CHI 311 is to address non-emergency services in our Ward. Via the CHI 311 website and mobile app, you can:
- Create new service requests and check the status of existing requests (such as on timing and completion).
- Snap a photo of an issue to submit it with a request to improve location accuracy.
- Get local and relevant information/tips regarding the 43rd Ward including visibility into what other requests are being made in your neighborhood. The free CHI 311 mobile app is available for both iOS and Android devices and may be downloaded in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
