Dear Friends,
Happy Valentine’s Day! On Monday, we will have just 50 days left in the legislative session. As we approach the halfway point, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made week after week. Despite the snowy weather, we’ve remained hard at work in the Finance Committee and on the Senate floor.
|
You can track the progress and current status of the legislation I’ve introduced on my General Assembly page, under the "Legislation" section.
As we move forward, I encourage you to stay informed by regularly visiting the MGA website for updates and to view the latest legislation.

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of welcoming the Baltimore Area Council Scouts, who visited to honor my colleague, Senator Guy Guzzone of District 13, Chair of the Budget and Taxation Committee. We passed a unanimous resolution on the Senate floor to celebrate Senator Guzzone receiving the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award from the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) for his career achievements.
As the proud mother of two Eagle Scouts, it was an honor to participate in this recognition, and I congratulate Senator Guzzone on this well-deserved award.

I was pleased to speak with several District 32 students from Anne Arundel County Community College on Student Advocacy Day. I’m proud of their dedication as they prepare for their future careers.
Yesterday also marked Developmental Disabilities Day, and my office had the privilege of meeting with several constituents and organizations advocating for issues that are crucial to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in Maryland.

Important Resources for Federal Employees, Immigrant Families, and the LGBTQIA+ Community
|
My office has heard from numerous federal employees expressing concerns about job security and the potential defunding of essential services they provide. In addition, many constituents have voiced worries about funding and their rights.
To assist those affected by these challenges, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth has compiled a comprehensive resource guide, which will be especially valuable to federal workers, immigrant families, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community during this period of uncertainty. Click here to view the guide.
|
Governor Moore has also launched the Maryland Public Servants Resource Website, which serves as a centralized hub for programs and resources to support Maryland’s federal employees and contractors impacted by federal workforce layoffs, firings, and changes to federal funding.
The website provides resources for impacted federal workers, including information on unemployment insurance, job search and career support, legal resources, and an index of key rules and regulations that govern the federal employment process.
The website will be updated regularly as additional information becomes available.

Anne Arundel County Winter Relief
|
This winter season, Anne Arundel County will utilize several county facilities as warming relief locations to support community members during anticipated prolonged cold weather. Community members who need temporary relief from the cold weather can stop in and utilize the designated facilities during their normal business hours. For more information, click HERE.
When temperatures drop we encourage residents and visitors to do the following:
- Dress in layers to stay warmer for longer. This also gives you more flexibility to remove layers while still staying warm.
- Prepare for the unexpected. Most hypothermia cases occur due to an unexpected change in the weather or temperature, so keep extra gloves, hats, and a coat in your car.
- Wear a warm hat when going outside.
- Avoid getting wet when the temperatures drop.
- Wear waterproof boots or shoes to keep your feet dry.
Drink plenty of water and avoid nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol, which can cause dehydration.
