Join me and House Speaker Joanna McClinton, Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier, and our community and neighbors, for this Community Day celebration on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Richard Allen Prep Charter on Lindbergh Blvd. in Southwest Philly. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. we’ll have a full day with fun and games, health and wellness resources, food and fellowship, and so much more!

Nonprofit organizations can apply now for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to enhance security and protect against hate crimes at their facilities. I voted to include this $10 million program administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency in the 2026-27 state budget.

Grants can range from $5,000 to $150,000 for a variety of eligible items, including:

• Safety and security planning and training;
• Purchase safety and security equipment and technology;
• Upgrade existing structures that enhance safety and security; and
• Vulnerability and threat assessments.

The deadline for organizations to apply online is Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Households that received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and include at least one family member who has a disability, is age 60 or older, or is a child under the age of six, are scheduled to receive a $100 supplemental payment from LIHEAP. Supplemental payments will be distributed directly to PECO or PGW beginning on July 29. Eligible households will receive the benefit automatically and do not need to apply.

Details on the opening of the 2026-27 LIHEAP season will be available later this year. The supplemental payment will not affect a household's eligibility for the upcoming 2026-27 LIHEAP season. More information can be found on the COMPASS website or you can contact the Customer Service Centers at 215-560-7226.

I recently spoke with Healthy Me PA about access to healthcare. In many parts of Pennsylvania, including rural PA and especially our southeast communities in Delaware, Chester, and Montgomery counties, healthcare deserts have become a major problem with hospitals and care centers disappearing. We need to ensure that people have access to the services they need and when they need it, whether it’s mental health, crisis care, or preventative services. Let’s be people helping people and meet folks where they’re at.

As a state legislator, I’m working for PA to become a national leader in showing how to get things right with access to affordable healthcare.

Caregiver Connection is a new, free online resource designed for families of loved ones dealing with substance abuse disorder to find support for themselves as they navigate their family’s treatment and recovery. This site was created by and for Pennsylvania family members navigating substance use disorder. Wherever you are in this experience, there is support for you. It’s a one-stop shop of resources such as locating a local or online support group, connecting with others who understand what they’re going through, how to find their closest county drug and alcohol office, where to get free Narcan, and more. Click above to access Caregiver Connection and begin to access the support resources for you and your family. 

My office was proud to stand with the Delaware County House Delegation and other elected officials in support of Sheriff Siddiq Kamara, who recently faced race-based threats. I stand with my colleagues to condemn these actions and terroristic threats against Sheriff Kamara. There is no place for any kind of hate, intimidation, or violence against those who choose to serve and live in our communities.

Keep an eye out for Team 185 as my staff and I will be knocking on doors in our communities all summer long to make sure that you know about the information and resources that we can provide. It’s also a good chance to interact with our neighbors so you can let us know what changes and improvements are needed in your neighborhood!

This week, we were in Southwest Philly neighborhoods between 66th and 65th Streets across from Tilden Middle School connecting folks with information and resources from our office!

Be sure to save the date for my annual Back-to-School Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Connell Park, 6401 Elmwood Ave., in Southwest Philadelphia. Students in the district can get a FREE backpack and school supplies to start the year off right. Parents and guardians can get connected with information and resources on state and local services, plus higher education, college affordability, and more!

Come get your groove on at our next Music in the Park night on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Elmwood Park with the Kevin James Band! Our previous event was so much fun and a great opportunity to catch up with the community.

My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents.
