This week, I was proud to announce over $1 million awarded to four projects in our area from the Local Share Account program from state gaming revenues.

Two projects are in South and Southwest Philadelphia:

• $250,000 for police station renovations at the Philadelphia International Airport.
• $150,000 for Sharing Excess to purchase vehicles to help distribute donated food to local food banks and compost to local ag programs and gardens.

Two projects are in Delco:

• $463,250 for renovations and modernization for Colwyn Borough Hall.
• $207,974 for the Tinicum Township Police Department to purchase and upfit three police vehicles.

LSA funds should be used to uplift the quality of life and the public interest. These investments show how we can do so much more when we work together.

I voted for a $7 million investment in the 2026-27 state budget to help transition EBT cards to chip-based cards to fight fraud and theft of SNAP benefits. This week, I was proud to stand with House Majority Appropriations Committee Chairman Jordan Harris in his district at The Fresh Grocer in Gray’s Ferry to talk about this investment and how it will impact our communities.

There has been an increase in phone scams attempting to persuade you to give them your information. The Dept. of Human Services will NEVER call or text you to ask for your personal information. Skimming devices at card terminals have also become more prevalent. I’m working with DHS and the State Office of Inspector General to make sure you’re informed about what a skimmer looks like and how to spot a scam. Read the graphics above for more details!

Chip-enabled cards will begin to be mailed to the 1.7 million Pennsylvanians who receive SNAP benefits starting in late spring 2027, protecting these vital benefits from the growing national trend of SNAP theft.

The third Friday of September is marked as National POW/MIA Recognition Day. A ceremony at the PA state Capitol honors Pennsylvanians who were prisoners of war (POWs) or remain missing in action (MIA), as well as their families. We are forever grateful for their service & sacrifice.

My office, along with state Sen. Anthony Williams’ office, was happy to attend a congressional shadow hearing with Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon and her colleagues on the Committee on House Administration this week at Widener University in Chester, PA, featuring expert presentations about protecting American democracy, including election security, electoral reforms, voting rights, and anti-corruption efforts.

Democracy only works with participation, and that includes YOU. Every election is important, so get involved, ensure you’re registered, and make your voice heard in this upcoming election!

The general election for 2026 is right around the corner! Now is the time to make sure that you are registered to vote in PA and your voter information is correct (such as your street address, if you moved recently), find where your polling place is located, or to apply for a mail-in ballot. Monday, Oct. 19 is the deadline to register for this important election! Join the conversation and make sure your voice is heard at the polls for you, your family, and your community.

It was so nice to connect with parents and students at the Back-to-School night at Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School this week!

Good times at the Back-to-School night in Colwyn this week! Our resource table is always full of content for parents and students!

It was a pleasure to speak with so many neighbors at the Southwest Senior Center open house on Thursday!

One of my favorite parts of this job is going back to my education roots and reading to children. It was so much fun and uplifting to meet with and read to students at the Heavenly Made Creations Daycare this week! 

Terrific to meet with the team at Hubs for Humanity this week.

My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents. You can find a list of state grant programs that are currently open for application on my website. We update this list as new programs come online so check back often.
