Protecting Yourself From Measles
|
Last week, state health officials reported the first two measles-associated deaths in Pennsylvania in 35 years and outlined a statewide effort to protect residents.
Since the April outbreak, there have been hundreds of confirmed cases across multiple counties. The good news is that access to the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine has expanded, with more than 4,100 vaccinations delivered at 91 pop-up clinics and 40 more clinics planned. In July 2026 alone, more than 35,000 Pennsylvanians received the MMR vaccine—about 10,000 more than in a typical month.
If you or your children are unvaccinated or unsure of your status, please schedule an MMR vaccination as soon as possible; two doses provide about 97% lifetime protection. If you believe you were exposed and develop a fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, or a rash that starts on the head and spreads downward, isolate and contact your healthcare provider or call DOH at 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258). Current guidance, the measles dashboard, and vaccination locations are available at pa.gov/measles.
