$113K+ FOR FIRE, EMS COMPANIES
|
I’ve always been a staunch supporter of our first responders. They show up on our worst days with courage and professionalism, and they answer the call for help without a second thought.
That’s why it’s our responsibility to answer theirs by investing in our first responders, giving them the proper training and equipment needed to keep everyone safe. When we fund our first responders, we strengthen the entire community. Read more about these grants here.
My dedicated team and I have helped secured more than $31.5 million in state funding for local projects this legislative session.

A pathway to enter the workforce is unique for every student, and we’re fortunate to have a local community college that serves learners at every stage in life. The state investment announced late last week will allow for Erie County Community College's facility improvements, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for students from across the region.

To see how we voted on all measures, go here. Following several weeks of budget hearings, the House is scheduled to return to session in March, unless recalled sooner by the Speaker of the House.

MUNICIPAL POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY
|
Law enforcement agencies across the commonwealth continue to face significant recruitment challenges. Mercyhurst University Municipal Police Training Academy’s next basic police training class is scheduled to begin in July 2026. There is still time to apply!
This academy serves municipal and regional agencies throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania by preparing professional, well-trained officers who meet all the requirements. I'm hopeful qualified and motivated individuals living in my district will be interested in pursuing a career in public service through law enforcement.
Anyone interested may seek out more information about the program and the application process here.

POLICY COMMITTEE STOPS IN NEPA
|
The PA House Democratic Policy Committee hosted its three more hearings this week after traveling to Lackawanna County in NEPA.
In the 2025-26 session we've held 49 hearings across 38 ZIP codes. We've had 42 representatives serve as hosts of hearings and roundtables, providing perspectives from around the state.
The committee hosted a hearing in Newton Township, focusing on cyber charter reform and the work of the House to create $178 million in savings for homeowners by holding cyber charter spending in check in this year’s budget. The committee also visited Johnson College for a roundtable discussion and tour to learn more about the needs of Pennsylvania’s workforce development and the school’s ability to provide hands-on training for in-demand careers. The committee hosted its final event of the week at the University of Scranton, hearing testimony from medical professionals and advocates on the rising costs of health care following federal indecision and the imminent danger of community hospital closures.
UP NEXT: The committee will host hearings Feb. 24 and 25 in Harrisburg.

On Monday, we honor the leaders who have guided our nation through trials and triumphs. From George Washington onward, Presidents’ Day is a time to reflect on the enduring principles of leadership, service, and commitment to the American people.
May we honor the legacy of our greatest leaders — those who united our nation, not divided it — and who put service above self for the good of the country.
Please remember, many state and federal offices will have altered office hours on Monday. My office will be closed, and we will begin returning messages on Tuesday morning.
