Last Tuesday, Governor Josh Shapiro delivered his 2026 Budget Address. He shared his vision for the state which included increased funding for education, mass transit, career growth, and more.
Shapiro showed his support for the PA workforce by proposing to increase the minimum wage to $15/hour, investing more money into career and technical education, and creating programs to keep jobs in PA. This investment will help grow a stronger Commonwealth.
He also focused on building safer communities by investing in a new critical infrastructure fund which would support funding for four new PA State Police cadet classes, grants for fire companies through PEMA, and grants to support violence intervention and prevention. This funding will help to ensure police, firefighters, and emergency personnel are equipped to protect our neighborhoods.
Safeguards for new data centers would also be implemented requiring them to work and invest in the communities they build in, as well as requiring them to pay for the power they use and not pass the cost off to the communities.
The health and well-being of Pennsylvanians is also at the forefront of Shapiro’s budget vision, with increased funding for mental health services for crisis centers, diversion programs, community-based services, and more. Shapiro is also asking for an increase in federal assistance for rural healthcare and an increase in funding for mental health and safety training in schools.
The message is clear - Shapiro is committed to continuing his mission of getting things done for all Pennsylvanians. Let’s get to work!
