El Niño Business Walk in Pacific Beach
|
Council President LaCava joined Economic Department Development staff in Pacific Beach to conduct outreach to small business owners, encouraging preparation for El Niño weather impacts.
|
As the City encourages individuals and families to prepare for El Niño weather impacts, we are urging small business owners in areas subject to coastal and localized flooding to safeguard their shops now before the rains start. This week, I walked Pacific Beach speaking with businesses, encouraging them to protect their shops now before the rains begin—check their roofs and front doors for leaks, keep business equipment and merchandise off the floor. We also shared resources from the Economic Development Department.
Outreach will continue across the City to help residents and businesses be ready for the predicted heavy storm season.

Get It Done in D1: Prospect-Coast Walk Guard Rail to Be Constructed on Torrey Pines Road

A photo rendering of the completed project is presented above.

The construction of a metal guard rail on Torrey Pines Road is scheduled to begin next week.
This project is a long-standing priority of mine, and I am proud to have voted to secure its funding. This infrastructure investment will improve safety for pedestrians and drivers on Torrey Pines Road as well as residents below on Coast Walk. It will replace the temporary concrete K-rails with over 400 feet of guard rail, end blocks, and crash cushions. A new sidewalk, curb, and gutter will also be installed, and the roadway will be repaved and restriped.
Please note that construction will take place during night-time hours, Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 P.M. to 3:00 A.M. Daytime traffic impacts should be minimal, however, the right turn lane, sidewalk, and bike lane will be impacted during the daytime. Drive carefully in the impacted area and allow extra transit time. Nightly noise and traffic impacts will occur, and we encourage you to find alternate routes. The project is expected to be completed next spring. Thank you for your understanding.

2nd Annual San Diego Climate Week: October 1-8, 2026
|
I joined Councilmember Elo-Rivera in proclaiming October 1-8, "San Diego Climate Week," in the City of San Diego.
San Diego Climate Week is only in its second year of operation. Still, through diverse partnerships and collaboration, organizers are bringing San Diegans together for more than 200 events focused on conservation, planning, and climate action under the banner of this year's theme: "Unity."
This is a powerful moment for organizations, advocates, and residents to amplify local solutions and advance climate justice.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the San Diego River Park Foundation
|
Council President LaCava and Councilmember Whitburn present a City of San Diego Proclamation to members of the Board and CEO and President Rob Hutsel.
|
It was wonderful to celebrate the San Diego River Park Foundation’s 25th Anniversary at “Fiesta del Rio.” For 25 years, the San Diego River Park Foundation has raised awareness, restored habitat, and reconnected communities to the River. Over its history, the Foundation and its volunteers removed more than 4 million pounds of trash, conserved nearly 3,000 acres of land, and connected thousands of students with the River. I presented a proclamation, with Councilmember Whitburn, on behalf of the City Council to recognize their extraordinary work.
